Tuakana-Teina is a Maori concept refferng to the relashionship between an older sibling or student (Tuakana) and a younger sibling or child (Teina. We use this concept to teach the little kids skills and things like skipping or running relays and sometimes they teach us things as well.
Today we did Tuakana-Teina with a big skipping rope and it went pretty well. The Teina that I usually work with (Danny) sometimes messes up her jumps, but when we used the big rope she was a lot more steady with her jumps and overall just worked better with a big rope.
After every lesson of skipping we then do some relays, running and other. For example we do walking, running, and piggyback running for the juniors. But the seniors do grapevine and side-stepping. There are normally six or more teams of both Tuakana and Teina and we all compete to see who can finish the relays first and sit down.
